Glass Artists’ Gallery was established in Paddington 1982 as a need for a venue to exhibit glass as an art form from the initial graduates from the first full time glass course in Australia which commenced at Sydney College of the Arts, Glass Studio, Visual Arts in 1978.
First established as a collective, the inaugural members were: Neil Roberts, Giselle Courtney, Maureen Cahill, Ann Hand, Andrew Neilson, Michael Anderson, Keith Rowe followed by Cherry Phillips.

As initial members moved interstate, the Gallery changed from a collective to a formally run Gallery with Sydney siders at the time Maureen Cahill, Giselle Courtney and Keith Rowe.
In 1987, the Gallery moved to Glebe with Maureen Cahill and Giselle Courtney. Since the early 90’s, it has continued with Maureen Cahill as director.

Contemporary Glass - Australia, Canada, USA and Japan exhibited in 1981 at National Museum of Modern Art, Kyoto and National Museum of Modern Art, Tokyo.

The Glass Artists’ Gallery was the first Australian Gallery to exhibit overseas, being the Gallery to initiate the Craft Australia Export Strategy Programme with it’s participation in CINAFE, Chicago in 1991. This event was later replaced with SOFA – Sculpture, Objects and Functional Art which is widely known by artists and collectors and the broader public on all levels.
