TIM SHAW

1988 Royal College of Art – MA (RCA)
1985 Gerrit Rietveld Academie, Netherlands – Staat Diploma Glass
1983 North Staffordshire Polytechnic – BA (Hons) Glass

Tim has been a practicing glass artist all his working life. He has recently taught in the UK, Turkey, South Africa and Swaziland. He has exhibited regularly over the past decade, both nationally and internationally, notably at Collect 2011 London, and SOFA Chicago. He is invited to demonstrate on New York’s Corning Museum of Glass Road Show each year.

Tim has built many hot glass studios, his current one being nestled in the stringy bark forests of the Adelaide Hills.

Tim is best known for his ‘Slash and Cut’ Series, where he cold carves blown forms to sculpt the surface of the glass. This radical approach to creating glass sculpture, results in works that are steeped in raw energy, yet possess a refined elegance. This balance between form and fragility, transparency, light, colour and surface texture allow Tim to create objects that are uniquely beautiful.
